Iron and Wine Inglewood Concert reviews
Worth the Wait
"I was accidentally introduced to his writing style. I fell in love the minute I started reading. Wait until you hear him in person, I was told. I turned the email for his show into a birthday gift for the friend who recommended Iron and Wine, and was not disappointed. His new or re-worked essays, I love. Until the next book comes out, I cannot wait. Waiting two hours to have him sign my book was the best part of the show. It was worth the numb feet and tingling legs. His signature was made personable, and he actually wanted to chat with his fans. Love it! Afterward, you left smiling and experienced great dinner conversation. I'm just sad we could not get pictures after the show. As cute as he is..."
Beginning great, second set Meh
Opener Citizen Queen was like watching a team from the Pitch Perfect movie. Rachel Platton, the opening act, was absolutely wonderful with her engaging, upbeat stage presence and voice. Iron and Wine's first set at 9pm was great, highlighting their best singles and covers with cool stage sets. They took a break and engaged the crowd with a dance cam. When they returned to the stage, they played for 30 minutes, which got very boring, except for the beat boxer and bass doing a few old school rap numbers. By 10:30, the crowd was bored to tears, and a mass exodus was happening. The new chairs at the coliseum are nice and plush, but there is less room than ever. Tickets were inexpensive, with parking costing $5 more than the ticket price. The crowd wasn't as packed as expected, with a lot of tweens, which was perfect. Note, it was super smoky, and my partner in crime had to leave for a bit due to reactions to the smoke. My knees locked up from being tucked back in the chairs, so I didn't hurt or touch anyone.
